Gim Tim Restaurant 锦珍酒楼 (Ang Mo Kio)

Blk 157 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 #01-546 Singapore 560157

I have been visiting this small little Hokkien & Cantonese style restaurant since I was young.
You will easily miss this Restaurant that is hidden right below in a small corner of a HDB block in Ang Mo Kio.

Open since 1989, Gim Tim is the place to go to when you bring your elders. They still maintain the ambience from the 80's. You will feel that you have travelled through time when you dine here.

Crispy Skin Chicken Coated with Sotong Paste 锦珍金龙鸡 ($15 Medium)

This is a must order dish for me. Except for the Chicken Wing, you won't find any Chicken meat in this dish. The Chef need to de-skinned the chicken, Spread the skin out on a flat bamboo basket &
hang in to air dried. Then have to spread the sotong paste on the skin before deep frying the chicken.
Many restaurants don't serve this as it required too much work and skill to prepare but the result of this dish is wonderful. Crispy chicken skin with the soft sotong paste dipped in plum sauce.

Taste: 10/10

Braised Bean Curd in Sizziling Plate 铁板豆腐 ($14 Medium)

Egg tofu with savoury minced meat sauce over sizzling eggs on the hotplate, which goes very well with the rice. The egg tofu has an eggy aroma, which make you want for more.

Taste: 8/10

Deep Fried Yam Ring Topped with Assortment ($28)

In order to have a nice crispy outer layer with a nice texture of soft, creamy Yam Paste, it's important to control the deep frying temperature and the Yam Ring here did it just right. They have the right thickness of the Yam Ring as well. The accompanying ingredients such as Chicken & Cashew Nuts are fragrant.

Taste: 8/10

Fried Prawn with Egg Yolk Floss & Crispy Cereal 金丝麦片虾 ($30 Medium)

Succulent Prawn & Fragrant Egg Yolk Floss with Crunchy Cereal, made this a hit on the table.
The Prawn are fresh & can tasted the sweetness in it. The Egg Yolk Floss do Level this dish up. Crispy but not Oily

Taste: 8/10

Gim Tim Longevity Noodle 富贵长寿面 ($18 Medium)

Not many restaurants serve Longevity Noodle as well. Longevity Noodle symbolizes Long Life which makes this place a good place to bring the Elders to celebrate their Birthday. The Noodles serves with Red Quail egg., which symbolizes Prosperity & Good Fortune.

Taste: 8/10

The server here are mostly elders in their 70's which may have worked for the restaurants for many years. They are attentive to your needs & will remind you if they think you have ordered too much.
